Recently, a video was circulated on social media depicting the killing of a former Russian mercenary who had deserted the Wagner mercenary group while serving in Ukraine. The video, which has not been verified, was shared by the Grey Zone Telegram channel, which is associated with Wagner. In the video, a man named Dmitry Yakushchenko, 44, introduces himself and claims to have been born in Crimea and to have joined Wagner after being released from prison. He is then shown being executed with a sledgehammer.

The video titled “Video from the court for Treason” features Yakushchenko with his head secured to a block on a brick wall. An individual in camouflage stands behind him holding a sledgehammer, but their identity remains unknown. Yakushchenko is seen sitting in front of the camera and reciting his name and year of birth. He explains that he was in the streets of Dnipro when he was hit on the head and lost consciousness. He woke up in the room where the video was filmed and was informed that he would be subjected to a trial.

After this, the person behind him raises the sledgehammer and appears to swing it into his head. At this point, the video is blurred. A loud noise can be heard, and Yakushchenko collapses to the floor. The man swings the sledgehammer again.

A caption then appears on the video which says “The court ses-sion is declared closed.”

A gruesome video released Monday claimed to show a Russian mercenary who fled while fighting in Ukraine being executed with a sledgehammer — although the group behind the alleged execution later said the footage was staged and all “fun.”

The disturbing clip, captioned “Video from the court for treason,” shows a man who identifies himself as Dmitry Yakushchenko with his head taped to a block on a brick wall.

An unidentified man dressed in camouflage stands behind him holding a sledgehammer as the victim explains he was picked up in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

“I was planning on finding some loophole, just, as they say, to run away,” the man who identified himself as Yakushchenko says, adding that it was “not his war.”

A video allegedly shared by a Russian mercenary group shows a former member being executed with a sledgehammer. The video, which has not been verified, was shared on social media by Grey Zone, a Telegram channel linked to the Wagner mercenary group. The victim is seen falling backwards after the execution, which is captioned with “The court session is declared closed.” The Wagner group has reportedly adopted the sledgehammer as its symbol after using it to execute a defector from its ranks. Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin dismissed the video as a joke, and posted a second video featuring the alleged victim, who identified himself as Dmitry Yakushchenko, saying he was “forgiven.” The whereabouts of Yakushchenko are unclear, and there is no confirmation he is still alive. This is the second publicized video of a Wagner group member’s death by sledgehammer in recent months.
