The graphic video of a Pennsylvania man accused of beheading his father, circulated for hours on YouTube, and once again highlighted the shortcomings of social media companies in their ability to stop the spread of terrible posts on the web.
Police said Wednesday that they have charged Justin Mohn, 32, with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse after he publicly beheaded his father, Michael, at their Bucks County home.
A YouTube spokesperson told CBS News that the platform “enforces strict policies prohibiting violent imagery and violent extremism.”
“The video was was removed for violating our violent images policy and Justin Mohn’s channel was removed. has been terminated in accordance with our violent extremism policies,” the spokesperson said. “Our teams are closely monitoring to remove any re-uploads of the video.”
